To the left is the same tree now
preserved. In 1881, a statue was given by Fr. Fourmond to Miss Dorval
to replace the faded picture of Mary located in the bark of the tree.
This was to become the first place of worship. This spot is where the
Grotto is now by the spring at the bottom of the hill at St. Laurent
It was predicated then that someday this site would be celebrated by
pilgrims as it so resembled the site of Our Lady's apparitions
at Lourdes in France.
